Community Concerts of Laguna Woods Village is thrilled to bring Scott Yoo, host of the very popular PBS program, Now Hear This, to the Village as part of our 2024-25 season, to present what he calls a Notable Encounter. In Scott’s own words, “We developed a kind of concert called Notable Encounter, sort of a museum docent's guide to classical music. The idea was that we'd take a piece of music, and I would explain to the layperson exactly how it works, who it was who wrote it, and what went into making it.” For our concert, Scott has chosen Ravel’s Piano Trio to use in this educational process. Scott is a violinist and he will bring with him Bion Tsang, cellist, and Adam Neiman, pianist, to complete the trio.In the first part of the concert, as Scott deconstructs the composition, he will ask Bion and Adam to play examples to demonstrate what he’s teaching, in addition to playing some examples himself. Scott involves the audience by asking questions which can be quite humorous! Then after Intermission, the trio will perform the piece in its entirety without interruption. This will be an educational and entertaining program that will bring further understanding and appreciation of classical music to our audience.
